Happy Friday! I’m off work today and couldn’t be happier! I kicked off a two-day break with a trip to the beach yesterday with Johannes, my sister, and my niece. We had SO much fun. At first, I was thinking we were crazy to take a two-year-old and a 3-year-old to the beach for the day, but they were both so well behaved on the beach. I think the key was taking lots of beach toys. Johannes played with them for almost 4 hours and was happy as can be. (P.S. HomeGoods has some really cute, fun beach toys…like cupcake and ice cream sets, which both the kids loved.) The water was ice cold, so literally nobody on the beach was in the water (which also made it easier with two toddlers). We thought for sure they’d crash in the car on the way home, but it didn’t start off that way. My son and my niece are only 1 year apart, and they act like siblings most of the time. First they started by putting their feet on each other. #eyeroll. Then they were arguing about the cup holder between the car seats (seriously?). Then they were both making “spitting” noises, and my sister assured me that I was going to have to wash the spit off the my seats when we got home. Then my niece Camille started shrieking like some kind of animal, and we were hysterical laughing. Then two seconds later, silence. Camille had passed out, and Johannes wasn’t far behind her. It was over an hour of peace and quiet for the rest of the drive. I’m already ready to go again! Despite the “toddler moments”. 😉
So let’s talk about this orange jersey dress. It’s totally not something you’d typically see me wear. When I spotted it at Nordstrom on a mannequin, I loved it right away. I love the ruffled drop waist, and the red-orange color. (It comes in a few other colors, including black & white stripes!) Plus, I love that it’s jersey, which keeps it more casual. I knew right away I wanted to style it with a chunky belt, and I found this one in the same shopping trip. So we shot these pictures for the blog, and when I first saw them, I just wasn’t sure about this dress. After loving it on the mannequin, I wasn’t sure I loved it on me, or if it was really “my style”. But that is real life right? Sometimes we see an outfit on someone else, and then we just don’t love it on ourselves? You know that feeling, right? I almost didn’t post this outfit, but I knew some of you would probably really love this dress. Plus, I like that it represents that life isn’t about being perfect all the time, and we all have days where we don’t feel 100%.
Also, I have to mention how much I love this initial necklace, and it’s under $40! It would make a perfect gift for a friend, a new mom, or yourself. 😉
Thanks for reading! I hope your weekend is the best!
